The sea port of Matadi at the Congo River. Matadi is the chief sea port of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, it is the last navigable point before rapids make the river impassable for a long stretch upriver. Matadi is also the capital of the Kongo Central province, it was founded in 1879 by Sir Henry Morton Stanley.

Elmina, Ghana: view from Saint Jago hill towards the town and SĂŁo Jorge da Mina Castle, also known simply as Mina or 'Feitoria da Mina', built by Portugal in 1482. First established as a trade settlement, the castle later became one of the most important stops on the route of the Atlantic slave trade. The Dutch seized the fort from the Portuguese in 1637. The slave trade operated under the Dutch until 1814. In 1872, the Dutch Gold Coast, including the fort, became a British possession - colonial architecture - Gulf of Guinea / Atlantic Ocean in the background - UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Cotonou, Littoral Department, Benin: Cotonou, the largest city and economic hub of Benin, is situated along the Gulf of Guinea. It serves as the de facto capital, housing the president and most government ministers, although Porto-Novo is the official capital. Located between the Gulf of Guinea and Lake Nokoué, bodies of water that connected by Contonou lagoon, which in turn divides the city in two (center of the image). Cotonou is known for its bustling port, the Autonomous Port of Cotonou, which is crucial for trade in the region. The city also features industries such as brewing, textile production, and palm-oil processing.
