The Sierra de La Cabrera is a rocky outcrop of the Cuerda Larga —one of the most important massifs in the Guadarrama mountain range (Central System)—, which includes the largest granite massif in the eastern area of this mountain range. Located in the Community of Madrid, Spain, north of the municipality of the same name and east of Valdemanco, it is accessible from the A-1 highway (Madrid-Burgos), at kilometer 60.\n\nIt is one of the most important mountain-islands on the southern slope of the Guadarrama range, a designation referring to those mountain elevations that appear separated from the main alignment. Its main peaks are Cancho Gordo, at 1563 meters above sea level, and Pico de la Miel, at 1392 meters above sea level, with a length of approximately four kilometers.

The maquis, or macchia, is a type of dense, evergreen shrubland found primarily in the Mediterranean region. This vegetation is characterized by hardy shrubs and small trees such as holm oak, rosemary, and juniper, which thrive in the hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters typical of Mediterranean climates. The maquis habitat is well adapted to fire, with many plants having thick bark and deep root systems to survive and regenerate after wildfires. It provides a unique and rich ecosystem for a variety of wildlife.
