Wildflowers
A closeup shot of some yellow flowers in a garden during the day
Yellow wildflowers sprinkled along an embankment of a railway near Wandsworth Town in London, England. Ragweed re-seeds itself every year, and is a typical plant of the more disturbed area closest to the railway track. Meadow buttercup is a rooted, more permanent denizen of the railway tracks. Railway lines are, famously, corridors for wildlife, allowing otherwise-isolated communities to link up with each other.
The common name of cinquefoil is in reference to its leaves (cinq means five and foil means leaf). Additional common names include yellow rose, fivefingers, golden hardhack, and widdy.
