Around this decade, it was included as part of the Trans-Canada Highway network until the completion of the '401 Freeway'. The Fraser Highway retained its designation as Hwy. 1 until 1973 when it became Hwy. 1A. The Hwy. 1A designation was dropped in the 2000s.
