You can actually see the opening of the bear den from the side of the park loop road once you know where to look. Some refer to it as a cave because it does go a very short ways into the side of the mountain to the right side and I have heard that some have spent the night there...I would not advise it since it is illegal to spend the night camping outside of the National Parks campgrounds.
