The trail today is abandoned and unmarked, though if you follow the directions very easy to locate. You can actually see the opening of the bear den from the side of the park loop road once you know where to look. Some refer to it as a cave because it does go a very short ways into the side of the mountain to the right side and I have heard that some have spent the night there...I would not advise it since it is illegal to spend the night camping outside of the National Parks campgrounds.
