I got this fabulous set as a birthday present back in September and I've only just built it today. Shame on me! This is Lego set 10226 and it's a remarkably accurate model of a Sopwith Camel. It's 40cm long and 50cm wide, so it's a really good size. There are some compromises in the details - the Lego version has an eight cylinder engine rather than the real nine cylinder. What's amazing is that the control surfaces (at least the elevators and ailerons) actually respond correctly to the joystick inputs. The mechanism uses bits of string - just like the real thing! All credit to Jamie, the designer for a job very well done. One thing it also does well is a tapering fuselage - very difficult to achieve in Lego bricks. Anyway, it was a good fun build and a recommended model. :) I don't know what I was thinking of. I got this fabulous set as a birthday present back in September and I've only just built it today.
