This is the wall outside the front door, which hitherto was completely covered in virginia creeper. The bottom of the shot is actually where the plant emerges from the ground. Seemingly the last pruning came at a time of unfortunate combination of wind and truly awful, flooding rain. This caused some ingress at the top of the creeper, which then peeled back a huge section like a sheet. Poor Sue had to just get in there and start hacking away. After several hours of graft with two helpers, they emerged filthy but triumphant. This big hole in the wall should fill in quickly come the spring, so I'm not too worried. A shame to lose the beautiful autumnal show though. What it does reveal which is very interesting is that the naysayers who were telling us to hack it down as it was doing untold damage to the wall were wrong. The wall is absolutely pristine!
