As technicians we often end up working with anything with a plug on, and where else might you work on equipment as diverse as a computer, photocopier, sewing machine, engineering lathe or 24 track mixing console? Today I was playing studio engineer as we had some press in to view an award winning performance by some of the kids and I ended up in the control room. This is the mixing desk that we use for the theatre (trivia fans, it's an Allen and Heath GL2200) and it's a reliable piece of kit which is a lot simpler than it first looks. People get scared when they see millions of twisty knobs, but when you realise that it's only about ten knobs duplicated across each of the 24 inputs it gets a bit less bewildering. That doesn't mean I can use it properly though! I'd love to know even half of what it can do! One thing I love about working in a school is the diversity of the equipment.
