Hate might seem too strong a term for an inanimate object, but I hate this tap. It features in the gents staff toilet in work, and as you can see it's one of an unmatched pair. It may seem unremarkable enough, and as a push tap it would probably work fine, but it is in fact a turning tap. Somebody designed this. Once drawn, it was prototyped by an engineer. Once prototyped it was engineered for full scale production. Once produced, it was selected by a purchasing agent for a retailer. Once retailed, somebody from my place of work chose to buy it. Once bought, someone in my place of work fitted it. Should it not have occured to someone, somewhere in that complex chain, that a smooth cylinder with concentric rings around the primary rotation axis is going to be impossible to turn once your hands are wet? Sometimes I accept that form over function is acceptable, even desirable, but a functional object still has to work. Stupid tap. I hate this tap.
