Amongst other things, he's decided to remove an old gas fire and see about reinstating a solid fuel one. This means that some chimney attention is needed. The first step is a smoke test, and the best thing to do is call in a chimney expert. Chimney technology might not have changed much in 150 years, but it's still very much a specialist science. Fortunately we're blessed with the world's best chimney sweep - M. Chaffer. He gave them a call, and they went out today, had a look at the stack, swept the chimney and did a smoke test. They then issued a chimney certificate and went away again. The big shocker was the price...thirty quid. Yep, thirty quid for two guys to come and do specialist work when most tradesmen want fifty to even come to your front door. We approve. :) And the photo...well, if you look hard enough through all the horrible noise (even though it was bright - the Nokia 6630 has a very poor camera) you might just make out a brush head coming out of the chimney pot. :) Today was the day I promised to go and do some decorating with Bruv, and true to my word I turned up.
