I finally did it and got a cracking pair of shoes reduced from £55 to £39 to £19.99! Result! Whilst I normally go for a size ten, these are a nine in a wide fitting. They're dead comfy, but I was finding them a bit loose on the top. A nice tight bit of lacing got them spot on, but I was having some issues with slippage in the laces, as it's got these nasty really thin ones on. On the presumption that Google is my friend, I sought out some advice and ended up at Ian's shoelacing site (yes really) and he recommends this 'lock lacing' method as the one that holds tightest. The detail seems to be in the top two eyelets which have parallel strands through them which then loop under opposite threads. It sounds a bit mad but it does actually seem to work.
