Halfway up Bold Street we smelt a BAD smell. Then when got as far as Slater Street we saw the thick, thick smoke. Far thicker than it looks in the picture. Apparently the Greek restaurant 'Parthenon' on Parr Street was well ablaze, and firefighters were battling it. I hope it was to their advantage that at the same time the fire got really going it started raining, and the worst of it seemed to quell reasonably quickly. It's amazing how many pubs and restaurants are catching fire in Liverpool. It's also amazing how many are stony broke in the recession. Co-incidence I'm sure.
