Kenya Epik cycling challenge race rides past a herd of cattle while climbing up a track overlooking Laikipia County, 250km north of the Kenyan capital Nairobi. The Mt Kenya Epik is a 4-day mountain biking adventure challenge race that circumnavigates the Mount Kenya region and has attracted both Kenyan and international riders from as a far afield as Norway and Japan. Taking place between 21-24 November, the Epik was established to attract sports tourism to the Mt. Kenya region and showcase what it has to offer the outdoor, extreme sports enthusiast says Julie Wahome, Managing Director of Africa Extreme, the company which organisesd the Epik. “We were looking to raise the profile of mountain biking in both Kenya and internationally and at the same time provide a platform for local environmental issues from the areas surrounding Mount Kenya”, says Wahome, whose company also organises other extreme off-the-beaten-track sporting events in Kenya, including cycling, running and mountain biking. One of the great things about cycling through this area , says Wahome, is that it offers the participants the opportunity to interact with local communities and also to witness some of the beautiful scenery and landscapes surrounding Mt. Kenya that you otherwise might not see. MANDATORY CREDIT MAKE IT KENYA PHOTO / STUART PRICE. KENYA, Laikipia: In a photograph taken by Make it Kenya 23 November 2015, a rider in the Mt.
