Familiar to Americans since the founding of the country has been the terse communiqué – “The Marines Have Landed!” But, Marine landings heretofore have been mostly by ship. Today, they’ll land not only by ship but from the air. These pictures, taken at a Marine base on the western U.S. coast, show airborne Marines practicing parachute-jumping from a 250-foot tower. The chutes slide down wires of the tower as fast as chutes from an airplane.
