| Keywords: Eddington Kent tinted postcard 002.jpg Tinted postcard of Eddington Herne Bay Kent England Not postmarked The picture shows the original village or hamlet long before the area became a suburb of Herne Bay Publisher The Wrench series; divided back and printed in Saxony therefore dated before 1914 Most of the buildings in the photo still exist The site is on the east side of the Canterbury Road A299 looking north just north of Priory House at the southern end of Eddington Points of interest The house in the foreground and almost hidden by greenery is in the Kentish vernacular style with limewashed weatherboarding but the taller houses are late Victorian There is no footpath The orange-red roofs of the buildings in the foreground are pan-tiled The low building with double doors and tall chimney in the centre of the picture may have been the forge which is recorded at this crossroads The post office at this crossroads was where the postcards were sold but it is never pictured in this standard view It may have been to the left of the picture behind the hedge in the foreground It is possible that the large vehicle approaching in the distance is the horse-drawn mail coach Scan of original postcard in my possession 1900-1914 anon out of copyright PD-old-70-1923 Historical images of Eddington Kent Postcards of Kent 1900s postcards | ||||
