Cotton pickers improving their housing, from Santa Ana, Coleman County, Texas. Lost their farm in 1937. Worked on halves for one year, then went to day labor, driving tractor for $1.00 to $1.50 per day. Blames crop reduction program and change from teams to tractor operation of larger farms. "Never did pay a poll tax. Would have paid if I could". Arrived in Arizona Sept. 1940. Wife ill. Now picking cotton, camping in private camp, paying $.75 per week ground rent. Entire camp uses water and toilet of an abandoned nearby service station."
