When one introduces an already etched plate into the box, through a narrow opening - and therefore wearing a protective mask - the rosin particles 'rain' down on the plate and form a layer of 'dust.' The plate can then be taken out of the aquatint box and taken to a hotplate, where one can make the rosin melt by heating the plate. And this process is of course a precision work. It needs a printer who has become a master printer first.Temperature the length of exposing the plate to the rosin cloud, everything is important and can change the 'look' of the etching. And then one can make several aquatints, proceeding the same way all over again. The result will be a more and more interesting surface of the plate where the acid has bitten the exposed metal. One can use copperplate or zinc. It only needs another acid to do the work.
