These words look to have been added at a later date and I am not convinced that they relate to this particular Victor Dowling as there was another Queensland man by that name who served in WW1. John Copson Victor Dowling was born 1897 & Thomas Lawrence Rupert Dowling was born 1899, both sons of William & Mary. Perhaps Rupert is the person standing & second from right as he has no rifle. I cannot find any record of a Rupert Dowling serving in WW1. He may have been too young and been an army cadet. I also cannot find any war records for a John Copson Victor Dowling at the Australian War Memorial. (I think that perhaps there are two Victor Dowlings getting mixed up here. Whoever wrote the details next to Victor's name may have confused him with a Victor Dowling who was born in 1882 in Qld. and who married Lavinia Hodgson. Soldier #3761 stated he was over 30 years and his next of kin was a friend with the surname of Hodgson in Rockhampton.)
