The Great Fire Salvage Sale was for 4 days only, and began on the day this photo was taken. The boat behind Hearne's shop has been identified by ofarrl as the Portlairge, a steam dredger known around Waterford as the Mudboat: "Built in 1907 by the Dublin Dockyard Co. she was the last working steamship in Ireland when she was retired in 1980." Meanwhile Niall McAuley found the Portlairge at its new home in Saltmills, Co. Wexford.
