Formerly designed LCIs (Landing-Craft, Infantry), the support landing ships were originally designed to carry 200 or more infrantrymen from transports well off-shore from advance bases. They are equipped with the LSSLs, which displace 200 tons each, are normally manned by five officers and 65 men. Characteristics of the vessels will not be changed during their overhaul.
