Who is he and what is he looking at? The wicker man depicts astronomer Jeremiah Horrocks who in 1639 was the first person to predict and record the Transit of Venus. Although Horrocks was not a native Chorlean he had taken up residence within the Chorley Borough at Carr House on the Bank Hall Estate in Bretherton. It is thought that he had taken up a curacy in nearby Much Hoole and this is where the Transit of Venus was said to have been observed. Tomorrow's picture will show what Jeremiah is looking at.
